Beet Heaven
I have a few friends with heart problems, and I wonder if the herbs I know that are good for your heart work after you get the problem, or work better as a preventative?
Luckily the herbs I will recommend come into the ‘food as medicine’ category. Which means you can take them before or after any problems appear.
There are hundreds of well researched articles on the internet on validating the benefits of Cayenne pepper, Beetroot, Blackstrap Molasses and Hawthorne Berry for your heart. I have included some here.
Beetroot is good for your heart. Juicing a beetroot with an apple or other fruit 3 times a week will be a delicious way to help your heart. there is a lot of research that backs this up.
“Beets are known to have high amounts of nitrates, “a group of organic compounds that improve blood flow and promote heart health,” according to Medical News Today. Your”

Blackstrap Molasses is excellent for your heart as well. My father told me this one 50 years ago.
“It contains high levels of vitamin B6, manganese, magnesium, potassium, iron and selenium.”
“Blackstrap molasses is a good source of potassium.”
Potassium-rich foods help lower systolic blood pressure, reduce cholesterol and support a healthy cardiovascular system, in addition to helping cleanse your liver.
Potassium also plays an important role in keeping the body hydrated and works with sodium to support cellular function with your body’s sodium-potassium pump.

Cayenne Pepper thins your blood. It helps your blood deliver oxygen and nutrients to your body. As we get older our blood starts to thicken like engine oil which reduces our nutrient and oxygen levels and puts pressure on the heart trying to pump it around your body.
Cayenne pepper has become the go to remedy for patients presenting at emergency rooms in American hospitals with a heart attack.
“Cayenne peppers can protect heart health in several ways. There’s evidence, for instance, that capsaicin can protect against inflammation in your body. Inflammation plays a role in many different diseases, including heart disease. “Cayenne peppers can keep blood vessels healthy and may help lower blood pressure.”

Hawthorne Berry has been around forever as a powerful herb for your heart.
“Hawthorn (Crataegus species) has been used to treat heart disease as far back as the 1st century. By the early 1800s, American doctors were using it to treat circulatory disorders and respiratory illnesses. Traditionally, the berries were used to treat heart problems ranging from irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, chest pain, hardening of the arteries, and heart failure. Today, the leaves and flowers are used medicinally. There is even research to suggest that hawthorn might be effective when used in the treatment of mild-to-moderate heart failure.”

Like I said earlier, these incredible herbs and foods should be safe to take. They have been proven over and over again to work. If in doubt, take a little bit of each one on different days or talk to your doctor. If not: go for it.
