Food is our medicine
The immune system ultimately kills a virus. Some herbs and pharmaceuticals prevent the virus from replicating, entering cells and reducing inflammation. Because there are so many ways to attack a virus it is important to take a shotgun approach.
I use Lugol’s Iodine, a few drops in water as a gargle then I drink it twice a day. Iodine can disable a virus. A virus usually enters your body through your nose and mouth. If you gargle iodine and spray it up your nose you can stop it in its tracks there and then. You can make your own iodine spray with 50 ml of saline water and 2 drops of iodine in a perfume bottle or nasal applicator and spray up inside your nose whenever you feel the need.
A few drops of 6% food grade Hydrogen peroxide in a glass of water can help to disable a virus in your bloodstream. Also, a 1/4 of an ml mixed with 5 ml of saline water and a drop of iodine can disable the virus and reduce inflammation in your lungs. It can also kill bacteria in the case of early onset of pneumonia.
Then you have Andrographis, Ginger juice, Turmeric, Licorice root and Elderberry. All of these will support your immune system to bring a virus under control and reduce infections and inflammation. There are many herbs that can do this. See Stephen Harrod Buhner’s Book Antivirals, Second Edition.
Then you have Vitamin D3 courtesy of the Sun for 30 minutes every other day, Zinc, Vitamin C and Vitamin A. They all boost your immune system.
Finally, there is a surprising answer from the owner of a large Chinese Herb shop. Of all the herbs she has, all the above and more, she recommends garlic soup. I was quite shocked to hear this. Not unlike Stephen Harrod Buhner saying that his recipe for Ginger juice is as good a cure as any other herb.
Garlic soup, you get some organic garlic and make a base of onions, carrots or potatoes, add some natural stock and a bunch of garlic and eat it. There are a lot of recipes for garlic soup on the internet. See the recipe below.
The Ginger juice is pretty easy too. You get a big bunch of peeled fresh ginger, juice it with some water and add some lime or lemon juice and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Drink one or two glasses a day and keep in the fridge. Stephen has the recipe in his Antivirals book and it is online. Not sure about the proportions of water. Maybe a dessert spoon of pure ginger juice to a glass of water.
His Recipe – so you don’t have to go searching
Fresh Ginger Juice Tea
Ginger is useful for the flu only if the juice of the fresh root is used.
Dried ginger is useless.
At the first signs of an infection that is not going to stop, juice one to two pounds of ginger. (Squeeze the remaining pulp to get all
the juice out of it, and keep any leftover juice refrigerated.)
Pour 3 to 4 ounces of the juice into a mug, and add one-quarter of a lime (squozen), a large tablespoon of honey, 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne, and 6 ounces of hot water. Stir well. Drink 2 to 6 cups daily.
This will usually end the infection within a few days. If it does not it is still tremendously useful as it will thin the mucus, slow down the virus.
Garlic Soup recipe
Ingredients
2 cups vegetable broth, or chicken broth
1 head garlic, cloves separated, smashed, peeled, hard ends trimmed
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Salt, to taste
Steps to Make It
Gather the ingredients.
Start by placing the broth and garlic cloves in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Next, bring the broth to a boil and reduce heat. Allow the broth to simmer, partially covered, until garlic softens. This may take about 10 to 15 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the heat.
Lastly, using an immersion or regular blender, puree the soup.
Season to taste with pepper and sea salt and enjoy.

PS I have been very impressed about using food as your medicine ever since I heard about a village in India where the people have virtually no brain illnesses or brain deterioration.
At least once a week they make a curry that includes coconut oil, turmeric and broccoli. All of these things are good for your brain and the evidence is there to prove it.
And there are the Blue Zones around the world where people live to be 100. they have a simple diet which included organic vegetables, olive oil, simple cheeses, exercise and good friends.
