Transform your life, buy a Honda Wave 125 cc
Around the age of 18 I bought an old Triumph Tiger and decided to ride it to Tasmania. Two hours into the journey I crashed and stayed a night in hospital. The dynamo was wired back to front. A friend on a newer bike decided to ride with me to Geelong. After we got onto the Princess Highway he sped up and I tried to keep up with him. I was shocked that my lights went out after 60 mph. shocked again when he stopped his motor bike a few metres in front of me because he couldn’t see me anymore in his mirrors.
I panicked and put both my handbrake and foot brake on full force. This locked my back wheel which caused the bike to lean over to the left, enough for my hand to touch the highway. Then the bike leant to the right, catapulting me through the air, past my friend. His eyes wide open in shock, then landing in the long grass on the side of the road with an audible thrump.
He shone his lights on me, a family stopped, she ran to me, prodding and asking me where it hurt. I said I don’t know, I think I am fine. She left in a disgruntle at my lack of thankfulness. Minutes later an army convoy going past stopped, threw me in the back of a truck and took me to Cobden Hospital. The doctor gave me a phantom comic and said they would sew me up soon. I never made it to Tasmania.
I had another accident on my first motorbike in Melbourne two years earlier. On my way to work a fully loaded concrete mixer, turned in front of me, I went under it, stuck and sliding beneath its back wheels. The truck stopped before I died. A man took me to a nearby hospital where they sewed me up and sent me home.
Oh! Another couple of years later Potty Grauer, with me on the back, lost control of his 600cc Honda. We didn’t make it around the first bend, he was drunk, it was on a small road at night surrounded by cows. We crashed through a fence, slid in the shit, then walked back to the party, laughing more than crazy, for another drink.
Not a good record with motorbikes when I was young. Now I am old it’s a different story. I hardly ever fall off. On my visits to South East Asia I have clocked up over 50,000 km with a few minor spills. Otherwise, the Honda Wave, I usually rode was a joy and felt safe.
I can easily recommend swapping your car for a Honda Wave for travelling to work, a quick trip to 711 or a trip around the world. They are extremely cheap to run, can easily carry 2 people and are cheap to buy, compared to a car.
In south East Asia everyone rides a motorbike because they are so cheap. You can see a family of four cruising somewhere, all on the one bike.
If you feel challenged now, or wonder about the future re transport: economic, environment, war etc. then seriously consider buying and riding a Honda Wave 125 cc motorbike. Only you can decide whether you want a debt ridden life or a freedom cash one. Luckily the Honda is so good it is a pretty easy choice.
It takes a few weeks to know how to ride one. Children in Asia as early as 10 ride motorbikes. By the time they are 18 they are masters at it. Two critical things when learning to ride are: ride slower in the rain because the bike slides a long way when you put your brakes on. And balance your front and back brake pressures on the pedal. More on the front than back.
One gallon of petrol can last for days and weeks. Some men like to buy Harleys and big bikes. What I am talking about is having a bike in the family that everyone can use in an emergency. Go to work, head to your favourite fishing spot, take back roads to visit friends and go to school. And it’s true, four adults can fit on one, a family, and escape either for fun and relaxation or for survival in times of dread.

I am a retired Photography Teacher, Refugee Settlement Manager, and Builder. For the past 10 years, I have been teaching part-time, writing books, taking photos and doing lots of research.
All the books I write come from experience and research. Yes, in my life so far I have worked with refugees, taught art, built houses, studied herbs, and health. I have also studied astrology spirituality including meditation, animal welfare, and poetry.
