Mini meditation

About 20 years ago I had the good fortune to  learn about the nature of the universe and mediation through a friend who introduced me to an enlightened Hindu guru.

This has been an invaluable way to reset myself when I am doing poorly. It is also good to have confirmation that many things Jesus and Buddha say are true and well worth pursuing.

Without constant application, I often fail to be more than human. This is why people become monks etc. so that they can focus and retain their enlightenment.

Now, I often find  myself impatient when waiting for a download, at the traffic lights, in line anywhere, so many examples of my failure to relax and be patient.

For all those times I do not practice what I was taught a long time ago, I try to stop my impatient brain by being aware of it and saying to myself what is the hurry. I have the same problem  when meditating. I will be  incredibly impatient about thinking nothing and drown under a waterfall of thinking and stress. I did discover one thing while doing this which has helped: meditation is timeless and if not should be. The first second is no different to the last hour. The attainment of freedom from your mind by awareness of, stillness of, letting go of your thoughts is the same in the first second and all seconds following. So, now when meditating the moment I get bombarded with stressful thoughts, I say to myself go back to the first second when it was peaceful.

Realizing that the meditation does not get beet with time, usually worse, unless you can stop time itself.

Now when I am downloading something and feel  impatient, I go to the first second, stay in the first second, and Bob’s your Uncle, I feel peaceful and ok.

Another technique like the first second is to do the 7x7x7x breathing technique. This is for more serious dramas in your life when you are feeling terrible. You can increase the time after you feel comfortable with 7 seconds to 10x10x10x10 etc.

Breathe in slowly through your nose for 7 seconds. At a steady temp. Hold your breath for 7 seconds, and then breathe out slow and steady through a small hole in your mouth, then hold your breath for 7 seconds then do it again as needed.  They say holding your breath stops your mind from working.

Other amazing mini meditations are looking into a fire, reflections in lapping water and listening to birds.

So don’t ever be bored, mini meditate instead, and make it a positive instead of a negative.
